Cookie policy.
The cookies this site sets, what each one is for, and how to change your mind at any time.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember things between pages and visits — what is in your basket, that you have already accepted a notice, or how people move through the site. We also use similar technologies such as local storage, and we treat them the same way.
How we ask for your consent
Strictly necessary cookies are set automatically, because the site cannot work without them. Everything else is off until you choose to turn it on. When you first visit, we show a banner with a genuine choice: accepting and declining are equally easy, and declining is not penalised.
Strictly necessary
These keep your basket and your session working, remember that you have passed the research-use notice, keep checkout secure, and protect forms against abuse. They do not track you across other websites and they cannot be switched off.
Typical examples are the shopping-session and cart cookies set by our ecommerce platform, a short-lived security token on forms, and a record of your cookie choices so we do not keep asking.
Analytics (optional)
If you accept these, we use them to count visits, see which pages are useful and find where the site is confusing. The reporting we look at is aggregated. We ask our analytics provider to shorten IP addresses, and we do not use analytics to identify you personally.
Analytics data is retained for no longer than fourteen months.
Marketing (optional)
If you accept these, they let us measure whether an advert or an affiliate link led to a visit or an order, and show relevant adverts elsewhere. Affiliate referral cookies, where used, record which partner sent you so they can be credited.
Changing or withdrawing your choice
Use the cookie settings link in the footer to change your choice at any time. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though strictly necessary cookies being blocked will stop parts of the site working — the basket and checkout in particular.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will update this page and ask for consent again where we need to. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
